Turkey Berry or Solanum torvum also known as Devils Fig, Pea Eggplant or susumber is a bushy, perennial plant. While they are technically perennial, most plants do not live longer than 2 or 3 years. It is used horticulturally as a rootstock for eggplant production, as grafted plants are more vigorous and resistant to disease. This plant is shrub-like in growth and usually between 2-5 meters in height.
The fruit are berries that resemble small green eggplants. They grow in clusters and the plants are known to flower and produce fruit continuously when they reach a certain height, in the right climate. The fruit can be paired with other vegetables for curries, or dry dishes. It can also be used to make pachadi and chutney.
